Our Story.
Hello There! We are Bailey and Hazel Bird, the owners and operators of North Shore Adventure Vans! We started North Shore Adventure Vans in February 2020 and it has sure been an adventure! We bought the North Shore Adventure Van on a whim, and rented it out as a way to subsidise our income as Hazel finished her Bachelors degree at BYU Hawaii. We fell in love with the business and over the coming year we felt ready to buy another camper and commit full-time! The next addition to the fleet was “Althea”, the ford transit connect. This solo trip camper is rad and definitely kept us busy. A few days after buying Althea we got a call about another van for sale. Although it was quick we decided it was the right call to buy the panel van and convert it ourselves. This was the Aloha Van! The build was so much fun! We now have a fleet of 5 amazing vans.
Our favorite part of this business is meeting all of our amazing renters! Being able to talk story and get to know people from all walks of life makes the hard work worth it.
FAQs
Where do you park the camper at night?
We run our business out of a “hipcamp” on the north shore, This beautiful property has vehicle camp spots that you are always welcome to stay in. There are also three campsites on the island with vehicle campsites for as cheap as $20 a night. Check out the app Hipcamp as well! There are plenty of vehicle campsites on that app.
How do we shower/ use the bathroom?
At most campsites and beaches there are beach showers and bathrooms, we also provide all of our renters with rinse kits (portable showers).
How does insurance work?
To rent any of the vans you need to be over 25 and have personal auto insurance. We have commercial van insurance that works through your auto insurance in case of an accident. In case of an accident you will be fully covered.
How many people can fit in the van?
That is up to you! In hawai’i it is legal for people to drive in the van without a seatbelt, as long as all the seatbelts are already taken. Once we had a group of 5 boys rent the North Shore Adventure Van!
Are the vans too hot to sleep in?
All of our vans have AC and a fan over your bed! You can also crack the windows if you need an extra breeze.
What are the best things to do on Oahu?
Great question! We provide all of our renters will a list of our favorite activities and places to eat. To name a few, we love Waimea bay, Bonsai Sushi, and the lighthouse hike!
